…sharing resources for Catholic writers

The web is full of writing resources — the good, the bad, the ugly — and my trouble when galloping through, is not getting tangled and tied. Thankfully, there are many reputable places to start. Last month, I shared Writer’s Digest, and spinning from this, we can follow their “best of” trail. Each year Writer’s Digest publishes “101 Best Websites for Writers.”

While that itself is a gold nugget, our resource for this month is Writing Links & Links for Writers; Writers’ Resources on The Web and More. A 2006 winner, and in the site’s own words, it is a place where you can find “Lists within lists within lists of links you can use to write articles, find inspiration or take care of business matters.” The categorical listing makes it easy to find what you’re looking for (and to avoid that which you are not!).

Under the category of “Other,” you will find a link for “Christian Writers” and several leads to organizations, markets, inspiration and more. I was intrigued with Faith Writers and their weekly writing challenge.  Faith Writers shares this about their challenge: A weekly Writing Challenge was unveiled in 2003, which has resulted in more than a dozen quarterly anthologies filled with roughly 100 original articles in each volume, with many more to come. Many of these authors have gone on to additional publishing success, while some are already established.” New Christian writers are welcomed and encouraged.
Faith Writers challenges you to write an article between 150-750 words on the given topic for each week. Entries should be submitted in the level that best suits your writing experience (beginner, intermediate, advanced, or gold). New topics each week, along with the ability to compete with writers at different levels as you earn success, keeps it interesting and challenging. Even if you aren’t up for the writing challenge, you can still enjoy reading the works of other Christian writers that have been previously submitted.
And don’t forget — while you are panning through for golden nuggets, please share any other resources you discover that might benefit our own guild of writers. Thanks!
