The Guild Blog infrastructure has expanded to meet an influx of submissions. Members that had not previously posted, have now shared their work. Others wait in the queue for a posting in the near future. Every Guild member, after checking the Guidelines, may contact Kathryn Cunningham (submissions @ catholicwritersguild.com) with  poems, illustrations, fiction and non-fiction offerings.

In addition to the Guild’s highly successful Non-Fiction Critique Group, a Fiction Critique Group has enlisted about a half-dozen members. They have exchanged and critiqued manuscripts, assisting each other approach their developmental goals.  Some member will critique monthly, bi-weekly and even weekly. The group is flexible as to pacing and genre. Other Guild Members who wish to critique chapters and short stories may join and send their own material for review. 1. Gary,

I propose a hypothetical approach to the Catholic Fiction Critique Group, subject to member input.

    1) Members vary in the the number of chapters or short stories that they will critique/month. Perhaps we could each submit a chapter to the distribution list ( or Google Group). Recipients could read as many as their schedule permits.

    2) If someone critiques your chapter, you owe that person a critique in return. Can we use the honor system?

    3) Chapter lengths vary. Some of mine go up to 3,500 words (+/-). If you critique my 3,500 chapter, I suppose I should read the equivalent number of your words (or is this too nit-picky?)

    4) I use “Word” which lets me insert comments on the margin of a manuscript. Does this format work for you?

    5) Critiques have begun. I was overjoyed with the excellent critiques by Theresa Linden and look forward to critiques by others.

    6) Notice Patricia Proctor’s blog listed along the right margin of the Guild Blog. She has set up a Google group for the Fiction Critique folks. Contact her for an invitation and then join the group.

  2. Thanks for the very informative post. I would very much like to get involved with the Fiction Critique Group. Please contact me or let me know who to contact.
    God bless,
    Gary Ludlam

I echo Barbara’s “Thanks.” I love the renewed direction of the Guild and cannot wait to see more and more of the work samples of members posted here on the blog. If I were to add one more thing to the “wish list” it would be for a”Like” button on the blog posts. Sometimes I read them and appreciate the message, but don’t feel like commenting. That’s when I really miss the “Like” button. It’s a quick and easy way to tell the author that I am glad they shared their work. Writing as we all know can be quite lonely. It’s nice to get a little feedback that isn’t from a chirping cricket 🙂
