Psalms 17: 1-6

Listen, Yahweh, to an upright cause, pay attention to my cry, lend an ear to my prayer, my lips free from deceit. From your presence will issue my vindication, your eyes fixed on what is right. You probe my heart, examine me at night, you test me by fire and find no evil. I have not sinned with my mouth as most people do. I have treasured the word from your lips, my steps never stray from the paths you lay down, from your tracks; so my feet never stumble. I call upon you, God, for you answer me; turn your ear to me, hear what I say.

OCTOBER INTENTION PRAYER

Blessing of the Harvest
Our help is in the name of the Lord. Who has made heaven and earth. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
Almighty Lord God, You keep on giving abundance to men in the dew of heaven, and food out of the richness of the soil. We give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to bless our harvest, which we have received from Your generosity. Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those whose desires You have filled with these good things may be happy in Your protection. May they praise Your mercies forever, and make use of the good things that do not last in such a way that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting, through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Please leave a comment with your intention. If you have problems adding an intention, email it to Mike Hays at coachhays(at)gmail(dot)com and I will add it.  God bless.

  1. A dear friend of mine, a prayer warrior, shared this at the Prayer Meeting yesterday:
I went into the dentist office this week for an exam and the receptionist that I know pleaded with me to take this testimony to all my prayer groups, and she pleaded for prayer for our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq. I’d like to read it:
Please be praying for our brothers and sisters who are suffering for the sake of Christ and from the missionaries who are serving them. A prayer request comes from Dan and Marilyn Wilson, missionaries, who are in the areas being attacked by ISIS and are asking to be showered in prayer. ISIS has taken over the town they are in today. He said ISIS is systematically going house to house to all the Christians and asking the children to denounce Jesus. He said so far not one child has and so far, all have been consequently killed, but not the parents.
The UN has withdrawn and the missionaries are on their own. They are determined to stick it out, for the sake of the families, even if it means their own deaths. They are very afraid and have no idea how to even begin ministering to these families who have seen their children martyred, yet he says he knows that God has called them for some reason to be his voice and hands at this place, at this time. Even so, they are begging for prayers, for courage to live out their vocation in such dire circumstances. And like the children, accept martyrdom if they are called to do so. These brave parents instilled such a fervent faith in their children that they chose martyrdom.
Please surround them in their loss with your prayers for hope and perseverance. One missionary was able to talk to her brother briefly by phone. She didn’t say it, but I believe she believes it will be their last conversation. Pray for her too, she said he’s just asking her to help him know what to do and to do it. She told them to tell the families we ARE praying for them and they are not alone or forgotten, no matter what. Please keep them all in your prayers. These are our brothers and sisters in Christ.
This came this morning, just a few minutes ago, and I received the following text message on my phone from John Malone who leads the Crisis Relief International (DRI). (Ours is the “Catholic Relief” but this is also doing the same type of work.) We then spoke briefly on the phone and I assured him that we would share the urgent prayer need with all of our contacts.
We lost the city of Qaraqosh. It fell to the ISIS and they are beheading children systematically. This is the city we have been smuggling food to. ISIS has pushed back the Peshmerga (Kurdish forces) and it’s within ten minutes of where our CRI team is working. Thousands more fled into the city of Erbil last night. The UN evacuated the staff in Erbil. Our team is unmoved and will stay here. Prayers are needed now.
Please pray sincerely for the deliverance of this people of Northern Iraq from the terrible advancement of ISIS and its extreme Islamic goals for mass conversion or death for Christians across this region. May I plead with you not to ignore this email. Do not forward it before you have prayed through it, and then send it on to as many people as possible. Send it to friends and Christians you may know. Send it to the prayer group. Send it to your pastors and priests. Phone him (or her) and pray on Sunday morning at all services and Masses, making a special time of prayer for this. We need to stand in a gap for fellow Christians. Thank you for your prayers!!!
