CWG Book Blast: “Discovery,” by Karina Fabian

This month, the Catholic Writers’ Guild is touring Guildie Karina Fabian’s book, Discovery. It is a SOA winner.

Teaser: “The truth is out there. The Truth is in you.”

DiscoverySummary: Karina Fabian’s Discovery is a suspenseful space adventure with deep roots that extend to questions about life, death, faith, and purpose. The crew members of the Edwina Taggert have radically different motives for embarking on a mission to explore an alien vessel. With the dexterity of an Isaac Asimov or Larry Niven, Fabian makes the science and speculative science of the story accessible, deftly weaving it into the fabric of the story. What the crew of Discovery finds when they arrive at their destination challenges their beliefs, aspirations, and schemes, and keeps the reader wondering to the last page. – T.M. Doran, author of Toward the Gleam, Terrapin, Iota Kindle version 99 cents on January 1, 2017!!

Excerpt: One of Karina’s favorite Sister Ann quotes is when she explains why she blew up at the mission commander, something she rarely does. Sister Rita asks why.

The look Ann gave her said she was as exasperated as Rita felt. “Make yourself a capacity, and I will make myself a torrent. Information — like energy. Information flows, information collects, information distributes. But there’s too much resistance, too many resistors. The circuit can’t complete; information backflows, fills the capacitor, fills the capacity. Fills past capacity. Resistance, torrent, backflow — the capacitor blows, and I’m sorry, but I really tried!”

Big: By day, Karina is a mild-mannered reviewer of business software and services for After hours, she’s a psychic intent on saving the world; a snarky dragon who thinks he saves the world all-too regularly, a zombie exterminator who just wants her world clear of undead vermin, and Catholic religious sisters whose callings have taken them off our world. Needless to say, her imagination is vast, her stories legion, and her brain crowded. She is also known for her work in education writers, including founding the Catholic Writers Conference Online and teaching at various free workshops, including the MuseOnline Conference. She also promotes Catholic writing through the founding of the Catholic Writers’ Guild, an international online organization of Catholic writers, editors and illustrators. When she’s not converting her wild tales to stories, she’s enjoying time with her husband, Rob, their four kids, and their two dogs.
