This month, the Catholic Writers’ Guild is touring Theresa Linden’s book, “Battle For His Soul.” It is a CWG Seal of Approval winner, and won first place in the 2017 Catholic Press Association Book Awards! A guardian angel fights to free his charge from the deep clutches of a demon, knowing that the paths of many depend upon it.

Summary:

Jarret West, a rich teenage boy, has been accustomed to having control over others and getting his way. When his life begins to fall apart, his guardian angel Ellechial hopes now is the time for his conversion. Jarret must be freed from the deep clutches of Deth-kye, the demon bent on seeing him in hell. The fate of several others depends upon Jarret’s conversion.

Meanwhile, Jarret’s twin and other teens form a prayer group and begin to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, unaware of the power they provide the angels. Though Ellechial gains strength, Deth-kye wins victory after victory. His weapons: emotion, vice, and memories. Who will win the battle for Jarret’s soul?

Monettello’s armor gleamed as he fought the two attacking demons, Deth-kye and Hursk. Streaks of sky-blue and golden light followed his every graceful strike. Keefe’s faithfulness to prayer and acceptance of his daily cross had made his guardian angel Monettello strong, well-armed, and something to behold. No longer clad in the long robes of an angel without permission to battle, he wore the short tunic of a fighter, a tunic that allowed movements swift and fierce.

Deth-kye, too, possessed weapons, strength, and armor. Armor with thin, razor-sharp plates! Jarret, having given rein to him since his youth, had made him powerful and effective. While clutching a short dagger with one hand, he swung a blackened scythe with the other.

Theresa Linden is the author of award-winning Catholic teen fiction. Raised in a military family, she developed a strong patriotism and a sense of adventure. Her Catholic faith inspires the belief that there is no greater adventure than the reality we can’t see, the spiritual side of life. Michael Fraley has been editing and posting the CWG Book Blast since 2016. He's adapted the Arthurian portion of Geoffrey of Monmouth's “Histories of the Kings of Britain” to the comic page, has worked in book illustration, graphic design, and has also served as a newspaper columnist. In 2019 the story of his conversion to Catholicism was told in Nancy Ward's book Sharing Your Catholic Faith Story. His primary area of study is in the Jewish roots of the Church, with an emphasis on the Gospel of Matthew and the Epistle of James.
