Theresa Thomas summed up much of the experience of the first day of the Catholic Writers Conference when she said that as soon as you meet someone here it seems that you’ve already known them. As members of Christ’s Body, the Church and then as members of the CWG, we already share so much: then we start sharing what makes each of us distinct and unique.

This morning’s Rapid Fire Reading for example: Catholic Non-fiction was the overall genre–and yet the three of us presenting could not have more different topics. Ellen Gable read about Catholic courtship and marriage; I read about St. Edmund Campion, martyrdom, and suffering, while Susi Pittman read about animals and whether they will be in heaven!

Today I’ve met Patti Maguire Armstrong, Lee Alner, Jerry Webster, and Renee de Burgh. Theresa Thomas’s presentation on Authenticity in Marketing offered a great presentation of overarching philosophy about being true to yourself, your message, Truth, and God. Then she provided guidance for how to put that authenticity into action through marketing by giving examples and advice.

Tomorrow’s presentations promise more marketing advice in addition to hints on blogging and how to be a good media guest.
