SEO Tricks for Bloggers: Editing for Search Engine Optimization & Bonus Tips

By Karina Fabian

At work, we have a methodology in place to help us write SEO-rich reviews quickly. I’ve shared a few ideas in the past 2 articles, which you can find here and here[K1] . Now, let’s talk about editing.

It’s actually not hard to edit for SEO. Open up Find in your word processor and put in the keyword or a recognizable part of it. For example if you have “Marian devotions for Advent,” you might search for “Advent” and see if Marian and devotions are in the same sentence or neighboring sentences, or if there are close derivations of the words. As you check these, make sure they are mentioned at least once, preferably twice, in the blog, with your best keyword mentioned in the beginning, middle and end. If not, look to see how you can rewrite a sentence to include a reasonable approximation of your keywords.

Finally, when loading your blog, include these keywords in your metadata or tags section. Do not add words in this section that are not included in your blog. It can hurt your standing.

There are a few other things you can do to your blog to give it increased credibility and get it noticed by search engines, especially Google. These are just a few I see in many articles.

  • Have a Google + Account: Google especially favors bloggers who use Google Plus. Let’s face it; it’s their baby.
  • Link to other sites. This lets search engines know that your content is verifiable and that you’ve done some online research.
  • Post a YouTube video. Search engines are recognizing the popularity of video, plus visuals are always a good way to get attention.

That’s it for my SEO Tips and Tricks. If you have questions, please post them in the comments. In the meantime, here’s a video about content from V+J Success Team on content writing search engines love. http://vjsuccessteam.com/guides/seo/
