Grounded

Trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. – Psalm 1:3 (NRSVCE)

Standing here with feet on solid ground, I am surrounded by mature trees. There is the work tree, the home tree, the parish tree, the family tree… The roots of these trees run deep, but the winds of change rustle their leaves – a layoff at work, a leadership change at church, a child leaves home.

Looking up, I wonder how God’s plan will eventually unfold, but the sky is filled with moving clouds. God, are you there?

Lord, I can’t see the big picture. Help me to trust in You in the midst of change and to be a “giving tree” deeply rooted in You and upon which those around me can depend.

“Walk with your feet on earth, but in your heart be in heaven.” – St. John Bosco
