This month, the Catholic Writers’ Guild is touring Deanna Kipker Klingel’s’s book, “Waiting with Elmer. It is a CWG Seal of Approval recipient! Alone, abandoned and waiting, in the strange little town of Waitnsee, Willy discovers a different sort of family.

Waiting with Elmer

Summary:

This was the hardest part about a new place; he was always waiting. Would this be like the last place? Better? Worse?

Abandoned by his father in an unusual town of Waitnsee, Willy carries a terrible secret. With no family he can trust, the homeless men of the Union Mission help him discover a new way to see the world around him. The light of the cross on the Mission’s roof, the wail of the reliable train whistle, and the brotherhood of the Mission, become anchors for Willy as he endures prejudice and poverty and learns the power of forgiveness before discovering God’s calling. The story is set in that awkward era of American History between the two World Wars, known as the Great Depression.
